MAPFRE RE Strengthens Its Management Team to Drive Growth Strategy

The MAPFRE RE Management Team has been strengthened with new leadership appointments aimed at accelerating the company’s global growth strategy. This move reflects MAPFRE’s continued focus on expanding its executive capabilities to meet evolving market demands.

Fernando Utrilla Agüero, until now Assistant General Manager of MAPFRE Group Business at MAPFRE RE, will take on the role of Deputy CFO, while José López González, current Underwriting Manager for MAPFRE Group Retrocessions, will become Assistant General Manager of MAPFRE Group Business and will join the Management Committee. Both will report directly to MAPFRE RE’s CEO, Miguel Rosa.

These changes, effective as of 1 July, continue the renewal and optimisation of the executive team that began in February this year, when MAPFRE RE updated its organisational structure with various appointments, including Javier San Basilio as General Manager.

They reinforce the strategic objectives of business development, strengthening commercial relationships, and optimising operational efficiency.

Fernando Utrilla holds degrees in Business Administration as well as in Insurance Sciences from the Pontifical University of Salamanca. Since joining MAPFRE RE in May 1994, he has held various positions of responsibility.

For his part, José López holds a degree in Economics from the University of Alcalá de Henares and, since joining MAPFRE RE in September 2008, has taken on various strategic roles in the retrocession area.

By expanding the MAPFRE RE Management Team, the company aims to enhance decision-making and leadership capabilities across international markets. Additionally, on 6 September, Jose Manuel Inchausti will join as Director and as Chairman of MAPFRE RE, replacing Esteban Tejera, who will step down on that date after reaching the statutory age limit for board membership.
