Founder Alex Gonthier Returns as CEO of Trustly, Inc.

Trustly, the global leader in Open Banking Payments, announces that it will welcome back Alex Gonthier as CEO of Trustly, Inc., the Americas division of Trustly AB, effective October 31, 2022. Gonthier is the founder and former CEO of PayWithMyBank, Inc., which merged with Trustly in June 2019. He transitioned to Executive Chairman in 2021.

In Alex Gonthier’s own words: “I thank John McLane for his leadership during a period of hypergrowth for the company, and look forward to his driving the development of our strategic capabilities and operations as COO moving forward. I’m excited to come back as CEO to further our vision of bringing a financially-responsible payment method to consumers and payment independence to merchants, with a suite of Open Banking solutions at the forefront of financial inclusion and innovation.”

Since 1997, Gonthier has been a serial founder and entrepreneur in FinTech. Gonthier was co-founder and CEO of iPIN, a leading digital payments pioneer where he co-invented Open Banking Payments in 2000 (iPIN was acquired by Aepona and subsequently, Intel Corp.). Gonthier was also the CTO of mobile payments company Paymo, which merged with Boku, the global leader in carrier billing-based payments (now public, LON: BOKU). He was also CEO and Director of digital ticketing platforms Trinity Mobile and Ticketscript (now part of Eventbrite, NYSE: EB).

Johan Tjärnberg, Group CEO for Trustly AB, says: “We are thrilled and grateful that Alex has agreed to return to lead our fastest-growing division. His vast experience in the payments industry and entrepreneurial mindset make him the perfect candidate to lead our next growth chapter in the Americas.”
