Trine receives new crowdfunding licence

Earlier this year, the EU brought in a new regulation for crowdfunding service providers. All European crowdfunding services are now required to pass a licensing process and submit themselves under the supervision of their local Financial Supervisory Authority. The new regulation will benefit investors with an aligned and enhanced investor protection framework and crowdfunding platforms will more easily be able to offer their services across the EU.

The investment platform Trine, which enables individuals and businesses to invest in solar energy companies in emerging markets, is now authorized under the Swedish Financial Services Authority as a Crowdfunding Service Provider.

“The new EU regulation is a significant step forward for the industry as it strengthens investor protection and contributes to a more transparent investment market. The licence will enable us to go further in supporting solar energy companies in emerging markets to raise capital and scale up their operations where renewables are needed the most,” says Tristan Morgan, Head of Compliance & Finance at Trine.

So far, investments through Trine have provided three million people with access to renewable energy, simultaneously avoiding one million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, while investors benefit from 4 to up to 8.5% interest.
