Tandem Strikes Gold for Putting People First
Tandem Bank has won the prestigious Tandem People First Award, which honours its ongoing efforts to create a workplace culture that is supportive, welcoming, and empowering. This award shows that Tandem is serious about its goal of putting people—both customers and employees—at the centre of everything it does.
The national recognition highlight’s Tandem’s dedication to building a culture of customer-centricity and of community. Gold is reserved for the UK’s standout employers, based on survey results of the firm’s employees and customers.
Alongside Tandem’s IIC Gold, they also gained the A Company That Cares Award, which recognises a genuine culture of care, empathy, and service excellence.
Tandem were evaluated on how they present themselves externally — including a perception review of their website, tone, and social presence — as well as through evidence of their internal processes.
The award celebrates organisations that go beyond satisfaction scores and KPIs, demonstrating a culture where customers truly feel valued. A powerful proof point that Tandem really are A Company That Cares.
The Tandem Bank award shows that the company is serious about making its internal culture a key factor in long-term business success and customer trust.
Commenting on the award, Paul McGarrigle, Chief Operating Officer at Tandem, said: “I couldn’t be prouder. We’ve put a lot of work in building a purpose-driven bank – one that helps the planet and genuinely helps more and more consumers transition to a lower carbon economy. But our people are what make it. Whether it’s being inclusive, being responsible, a focus on wellbeing, or supporting our communities, I’m so proud of the work the Tandem team puts in. Receiving gold is a meaningful milestone and recognition of the progress we’ve made in our ongoing commitment to customer centricity across the bank.”
The accreditation follows a comprehensive assessment process, including anonymous employee and customer feedback and evaluation of experience, along with policies that support wellbeing, diversity, and doing business the right way.
Receiving the top award marks another success for Tandem which continues to scale its operations and deliver in its mission to build the UK’s greener, digital bank.
Its latest news is the hiring of industry heavyweight Neil Chandler as CEO, coming into the profitable fintech to boost ambitions to scale, with a laser focus on customer experience and making greener lifestyles more inclusive for everyone.
Tandem’s latest results demonstrate strong foundations, prepped for growth:
- 40% profit growth YoY
- Revenue up nearly 10%, closing in on £100m annual revenue
- Over £1.5bn AUM
- Over £500m in green lending – up 9%, with 38% of total lending ‘green’
- Recognised in both the Sunday Times’ Tech 100 and Best Place to Work lists
Commenting on behalf of Investor in Customers, Managing Director, Tony Barritt, said: “This is a fantastic result for Tandem. In tough economic conditions it is always difficult to delight customers but Tandem do so consistently across their business. The management team have a clear vison about where they are going and recognise that providing an exceptional customer experience is vital part of achieving their goals. They lead by example and train and empower employees to always consider what the impact on customers is before they act”
In the assessment, Tandem performed strongly across the principal metrics, including understanding and meeting customer need, along with delighting them and engendering loyalty.
But it was it in understanding its customer needs that Tandem demonstrated a thoughtful, structured approach. This echoes the importance which is placed on the customer at the bank. However, incoming CEO Neil Chandler has been clear on the need to increase this and truly become customer focussed.
The Tandem People First Award shows that the bank is still a leader in putting employees first in banking, proving that human-centered values are still a competitive edge in modern fintech.
