Remembering Barb MacLean
It has been announced that Barb MacLean, a true leader, Winnipeg native, Huskies fan, great mentor, and good friend, has passed away.
Barb was building and changing key finance tech while leading the way with strategy, building teams, while motivating both big companies and new fintech startups.
As CEO and Co-Founder of Velocita, along with Celero Technologies, she brought honesty, skill, and strong principles to every discussion. Barb cared considerably about helping companies deal with tough situations; whether it was enabling community banks through technology, modernizing tech stacks, the importance of being a platform company, and the need for consolidation in the fintech industry.
Before that, she held leadership positions at Coastal Community Bank, where she pushed for AI security and going digital. She was serious about helping banks use new tech safely and confidently while also sharing her thoughts on the fintech ecosystem through talks, podcasts, and her Fintech Playlist which was a popular series on LinkedIn.
At FF, we were fortunate enough to feature Barb in the FF Salon at Sibos 2023 and have her as one of our mentors in The Payments Race in 2019 as well as featuring in the FF News Buckaroos 2022.
People who worked with her remember her for support, and talent for turning hard problems into real progress.
Her impact will be remembered for her innovation, community building, and, most of all, her care. A memorial is being planned, with a GoFundMe live for those who wish to donate and details will be shared soon.
