Equifax Launches Free Monthly Credit Score To Help Consumers More Easily Monitor Financial Health

Equifax UK has launched Equifax Basic, a new and improved way for consumers to monitor their financial health and better understand their credit history. The new Equifax Basic account refreshes a user’s Equifax Credit Score on a monthly basis and will also include access to their statutory credit report.

The new and free service comes amid demand from consumers to be able to access their credit information easily and conveniently. Equifax customer data1 shows that while 22% of users sign up for access to their credit report in preparation for major life events such as a mortgage application, and 8% do so to monitor for potential fraud or identity theft, the largest group, over a third (34%), sign up simply to see where they stand, driven by curiosity about their credit score.

With Equifax Basic, consumers can now track their Equifax Credit Score every month, free of charge, alongside full access to their statutory credit report. A monthly notification will alert users when their score has been refreshed— helping them stay more informed and providing more control over their financial well-being.

Craig Tebbutt, financial health expert at Equifax UK, said: “At Equifax, our purpose is to help people live their financial best, and providing consumers with the resources they need to increase their financial capability is an important part of that commitment. With the launch of Equifax Basic, we’re giving consumers free, regular access to the information they need to better understand their current credit position and empower them in their financial lives.

“Whether you’re applying for credit, aiming to safeguard against fraud, or simply wanting to stay on top of your finances, Equifax Basic can support smarter, more mindful decision-making. Our aim is to help demystify credit scores so consumers can better protect their financial wellbeing and plan for the future with confidence.”

  • Monthly updated Equifax Credit Score: Free access to your Equifax Credit Score, refreshed every month upon login

Understanding your credit score isn’t just about numbers — it’s about protecting your future. Here are the top tips from Equifax for why checking your credit score regularly matters:

  1. Be prepared for big life moments
Whether you’re planning to buy a home, finance a car, or even change jobs, your credit history could be checked. Staying on top of your score means you’re always one step ahead. A higher credit score can unlock access to better interest rates on mortgages, loans, credit cards and mobile phone contracts, helping you save money in the long run.
  1. Spot problems early
Regularly checking your score and report can alert you to unexpected changes, and help you spot inaccurate or incomplete information. These changes could indicate errors or fraudulent activity, giving you a chance to take action before they impact your finances. Errors on your credit report can have negative consequences, so it’s important to dispute them with the credit bureau or the reporting lender.
  1. Understanding your financial history
Your credit report from Equifax provides insights into your borrowing history, allowing you to see where you can improve your creditworthiness. For example, you can see if you have any missed payments or high credit utilisation, which can negatively impact your score.
