Female Invest Gathers Women Worldwide in Its #BeatTheGap Campaign

Female Invest, the EdTech platform empowering women by increasing their personal finance and investing knowledge – has today launched its global campaign #BeatTheGap to raise awareness of the financial gender gap.

More than 60 women from 6 different continents, acting as ambassadors for the campaign, have joined forces in support of financial gender equality. The social media campaign #BeatTheGap is on a mission to empower women around the world to take action through investing and change the course of history.

The campaign video was designed in-house by Female Invest and shot by Copenhagen-based production agency Butter (www.butteragency.dk). The 60-second film begins by stating that “It’ll take 257 years to close the financial gender gap” followed by “That’s 257 years of less choice, less choice, less security, less freedom” and declares “By investing, we can change the future. What are we waiting for?” The film then cuts from one ambassador to the next pounding their fists against their chests, in a direct reference to the famous scene in the Hollywood film The Wolf of Wall Street, finishing with the words “The stock market doesn’t care about gender. Let’s #BeatTheGap”. The campaign will play across Female Invest’s social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn.

The landing page for the campaign (https://femaleinvest.com/beatthegap) provides an interactive graph to show how your money can grow through investing compared to saving. Users can select their preferred currency (USD, EUR, GBP, DKK), their investment horizon (5 years – 50 years), their starting amount (£100 – £6000), and their monthly investment amount (£200 – £5000). For example, it is predicted that to start with £500 and have a monthly investment of £300, over 5 years one would collect £23,544 by investing compared to £18,500 through savings alone. There is also access to the unique #BeatTheGap Instagram story filter.

Female Invest believes that with every woman who invests, society can move one step closer to beating the financial gender gap. The Female Invest platform provides women with the tools and resources to learn about investing, and the company recently relaunched its service in June 2021 with several new key features. Members can now gain access to an online universe of content including courses, webinars, video tutorials, articles, easy-explainers, and structured learning flows about personal finance, investing and career.

Camilla Falkenberg, Partner at Female Invest, explains: ”Right from the start, our mission has been to close the financial gender gap. We know that the gap is caused by systemic factors such as the pay gap. This is something that’s out of the hands of you and me to change. However, we can do something today to close the gap: by starting to invest and take charge of our finances. That is the message we want to push out there.”

Pernille Harder, the renowned Danish professional footballer for Chelsea F.C., and ambassador for the campaign, says: “Knowing that a career in football won’t last forever, I want to safeguard my future and prepare for what’s to come. Therefore I recently joined Female Invest as I’m looking to grow my money. Wages are still different from those of men and while it seems like there’s a long way until we reach an equal stage, the least we can do is to take personal responsibility and work towards financial equality through investments in ourselves.”

Scarlett Curtis, another ambassador for the campaign, and author of two Sunday Times bestselling books Feminists Don’t Wear Pink and other lies and It’s Not Okay to Feel Blue and other lies, says: “Throughout history, women have been systematically excluded from the world of investment and this presentation of finance being a “bros only” space has left so many of us feeling intimidated and terrified by the mere mention of a stock. I am endlessly inspired by the work Female Invest is doing to smash the glass ceiling of the investment world and create a space where everyone feels welcome.”

Other ambassadors seen pounding their chests in the campaign include: Munroe Bergdorf (model & activist), Mari Malek (DJ, model & activist), Tiwa Ogunlesi (activist and founder of Confident and Killing It), Mia Wagner (investor on Løvens Hule, the Danish version of Dragon’s Den and co-founder of Nordic Female Founders), Sus Wilkins (Danish actress) and Freja Kirk (part of a musician duo with Wilkins) and Bola Sol (finance and wellness coach).
