Immunefi Partners with Ripple to Launch Attackathon Securing XRP Ledger Lending Protocol
Immunefi – the leading onchain security platform protecting $180 billion in user funds – and Ripple, the leader of enterprise blockchain and crypto solutions and one of the key contributors to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) a public blockchain, announced a collaboration to launch an “Attackathon” on October 13 aimed at securing the proposed XRPL Lending Protocol.
The most significant near-term milestone in XRPL’s institutional DeFi roadmap is the launch of its native Lending Protocol, which is expected to be put to a validator vote later this year. The protocol introduces pooled lending and underwritten credit natively on the XRP Ledger, enabling developers and financial institutions to automate the loan lifecycle — from issuance to repayment — while connecting borrowers to global liquidity and allowing lenders to earn yield on otherwise idle assets. Designed to work alongside existing risk and compliance processes, it aims to make credit markets more efficient, transparent, and accessible on the XRPL.
“We are excited to team up with RippleX to secure the XRPL Lending Protocol through our Attackathon model, which trains and leverages the expertise of the world’s best security researchers,” said Mitchell Amador, CEO and Founder of Immunefi. “This initiative not only strengthens XRPL’s infrastructure but also reinforces Immunefi’s mission to protect the most critical ecosystems in Web3.”
“XRPL was designed to support secure, real-world financial applications, and that’s especially important as lending is introduced to the network,” said Jasmine Cooper, Head of Product at RippleX. “This initiative is about making sure the proposed Lending Protocol is thoroughly tested and resilient before launch, so developers and institutions can build with confidence. Partnering with Immunefi allows us to work with some of the top security researchers to help strengthen this new layer of XRPL’s DeFi infrastructure.”
Launched in 2012, XRPL is a fast, low-cost, and reliable blockchain maintained by a global community of developers and validators. Its open-source design and built-in features make it a strong foundation for building applications in payments, tokenization, and institutional DeFi — with consistently low fees, rapid settlement, and over a decade of proven performance.
As part of the Attackathon, Immunefi and XRPL have invited top-tier security researchers worldwide to thoroughly test the XRPL Lending Protocol and make sure that it’s as robust and reliable as possible. To further incentivize the experts, the two organizations have also prepared an Attackathon Academy to train security researchers in the relevant technology as they compete over a $200,000 reward pool for vulnerabilities. The Attackathon Academy education period starts on October 13, and the bug hunting period launches on October 27 and lasts until November 29.
The Attackathon exemplifies a community-driven approach to blockchain security, uniting Immunefi, the industry leader in Web3 security, with XRPL, a premier blockchain known for its speed and scalability, to set a new standard for secure DeFi innovation.
Immunefi supports a growing community of over 60,000 security researchers who protect $180 billion in user funds and have prevented over $25 billion in hacks across more than 650 protocols. Their expertise ensures that high-profile DeFi projects like the XRPL Lending Protocol can identify and remediate vulnerabilities before they affect users, cementing confidence and credibility in emerging blockchain ecosystems.
The Attackathon will offer participants a notable prize pool, with key milestones such as education, submission openings, leaderboard updates, and a final recap of winners, overall impact, and lessons learned. Additionally, the organizations will host a live X Spaces AMA that features Immunefi security leads and the XRPL Foundation developers, who will provide real-time insights into the project.
