“ALEXA, ASK AVIVA WHAT’S THE VALUE OF MY PENSION”
Aviva has created a new pension skill for Amazon Alexa which allows customers to find out how much they have saved towards their retirement.
Customers registered on MyAviva* can link the skill to their Alexa account and then ask the voice assistant to tell them the value of their pension pot.
Aviva Canada has also developed a skill which allows consumers to ask Alexa for a motor insurance quote.
Blair Turnbull, Managing Director of UK & International Digital at Aviva, said:
“The new Aviva skill transforms the way people can connect with their pension, allowing them to effortlessly find out their latest pension value from the comfort of their home.
“Increasing people’s interest in pension saving will only happen if we make it easy for them to check on their progress. The Aviva Alexa skill and our MyAviva app can really help people take control of their retirement planning.”
Pension engagement needs a boost
Figures from research** carried out by Aviva show that people don’t tend to regularly check their pension balance. A third (34%) say they do so annually while 1 in 5 (21%) say it is less often than that.
However, there are some people who are clearly very interested in their pension savings as 1 in 20 (6%) of those surveyed revealed they check their pension balance on a daily basis!
When asked what would make them more engaged in pension saving, the second most popular answer (33%) was to have easier ways to access their pension balance such as a mobile app. Only better education about how pensions work ranked higher (36%).
*The skill is available for customers who have an Aviva pension and are registered on MyAviva. Not all pensions are currently available on MyAviva so therefore the skill will not apply in these cases
