African Baker Awards 2016 Shortlists Ovamba

Ovamba Cameroon Solutions, an online African funding and logistics services provider for MSMEs (micro, small and medium sized businesses), has been shortlisted by African Banker magazine in its annual awards programme for Innovation in Banking. Now in their 10th year, the awards are open to all African financial institutions, including banks, micro-financiers, investment banks, development finance institutions and other financial services institutions.

Viola Llewellyn, Co-Founder and COO of Ovamba, said “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award as the African Banker Awards. These awards were launched to reflect the rapid growth and modernisation of the banking and financial services sector in Africa – something which Ovamba has experienced first-hand.

Llewellyn continued, “Ovamba’s technology was created to serve the unserved and underserved of Africa – the 84% of the 1.1bn people on the African Continent who are unable to access capital to finance their business. Innovation has been a key driver for Ovamba in this era of tech-enabled financial solutions. Having started the company only three years ago the demand has been such that we are now expanding into Nigeria and South Africa.”

Ovamba is shortlisted alongside: Bidvest and Mastercard, South Africa; Equity Bank, Kenya; Guaranty Trust Bank, Nigeria; and Mauritius Commercial Bank, Mauritius.

The final winner for each category will be decided by an independent panel of judges and announced at the Awards ceremony on the 25th May at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lusaka, Zambia during the African Development Bank’s annual meetings.
