U.S. Bank on the SMB Shift to Digital Tools
Shruti Patel from U.S. Bank says small businesses are leaning harder on digital tools, with a 15-point jump year over year with the adoption spanning workflow automation and cash-flow management, but owners feel overwhelmed by vendors, costs, and integrations.
As a result, Patel says firms want banks to stitch banking, payments, and software together. U.S. Bank is investing in embedded payroll, AP/AR, and spend management, bundled as one experience and Business Essentials illustrates this. Business Essentials is a premium checking account paired with merchant payments, no annual maintenance fee, unlimited digital transactions, a free card reader, and same-day funding via a single application and onboarding.
U.S. Bank also notes tighter links between business cards and spend-management tools for clearer controls and visibility while they are upgrading their app and website as online banking remains the primary touchpoint. Small businesses want a connected system, not a toolbox – bundled banking, payments, and operational software with easy onboarding and fast access to funds.
