MPE 2026: Wolt on Achieving An Invisible Checkout
At MPE 2026, Danish Kanojia, Payments Product Lead at Wolt, provides insight into the company’s focus on creating a friction-free payment experience within its food delivery tech ecosystem, which connects merchants, consumers, and courier partners.
Kanojia stresses that the most exciting area for Wolt’s investment is offering a personalized payment experience that is almost invisible. Wolt spends significant resources ensuring consumers can pay easily, with the ultimate goal of making the payment experience seamless and removing the friction from fraud or security checks that customers might typically encounter. Wolt achieves this by constantly learning about consumer habits, payment trends, and data evolution.
When discussing the “gold standards” for digital merchants, Kanojia highlighted three key areas. The first is tackling affordability, which is crucial in the current global climate. From the payment side, Wolt supports this by offering Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) providers on their platform so consumers can pay without worry. The second standard is selection, which applies not only to the curated products and merchants on the marketplace but also to the choice of payment methods available on the checkout screen, as this selection can influence a customer’s decision to pay seamlessly and fast. Finally, the basics must be correct, meaning smooth conversion, one-time payment success, and providing clear, understandable next steps if a payment fails.
Addressing the current trends at MPE 2026, Wolt noted that agent e-commerce is a technology rapidly evolving right now, emphasizing that it’s “not next 12 months” but happening immediately. He urged merchants to embrace and adopt agent e-commerce technology, especially its foundational protocols, even if the complete solution isn’t fully ready.
Kanojia also shared his observations on the evolving role of payment providers and Wolt believes that providers are becoming increasingly relevant by closely understanding consumer needs and what merchants require to win in the marketplace. He particularly praised the modularity and flexibility these providers are bringing, which acknowledges that merchants are already heavily investing in technology. This modular approach allows Wolt to plug in and seamlessly integrate solutions without needing to replace core technology, ensuring that the complex integration remains entirely abstract from the consumers
