About Generali Romania

Generali has started the journey in the Romanian insurance market back in 1835, when the biggest commercial city at that time, Braila, hosted the first insurance branch. This start has led the way for secure business that lasted until 1948. The World War II made the company withdraw the activities from the Romanian market for the following period, but it came back stronger in 1993. In 2001, life insurance business is launched and Generali starts focusing more and more on the retail business. A statement for this development strategy is the private pension debut that follows in 2007 with the launch of Generali Pensions. The year of 2007 also marks the beginning of a new cooperation between Generali and PPF Group that decide to join businesses in the Central and Eastern European countries. From that time on, the Romanian Generali companies, become members of Generali PPF Group. In 2011, in order to consolidate the operations on the Romanian market, Generali Asigurari merges with the native Romanian company, Ardaf. Currently the business in Romania is represented by Generali Romania, for the composite insurance business and Generali Pensions for facultative and mandatory pensions.
