Revolut’s UK Banking Licence is “the Start of the Journey, Not the Destination” Says UK CEO, Francesca Carlesi

In a wide-ranging interview on the latest episode of Fintech Insider by 11:FS, Revolut UK CEO Francesca Carlesi outlines her bold vision for the company’s next chapter whilst emphasising its commitment to the UK.

Discussing Revolut’s newly secured UK banking licence, Carlesi describes it as a defining milestone that signals the company’s evolution from fintech rebel to full-service financial institution.

“This was not needed from a growth perspective… it marks the graduation… from a disruptor – one of the most successful disruptors out there – to a trusted player in the industry,” she says.

With over 11 million users in the UK, the approval of Revolut’s full UK banking licence marks the culmination of Carlesi’s first year in the role – and one of the most highly anticipated regulatory moves in recent UK fintech history.

The episode delves into:

  • Revolut’s “never settle” culture:

    • “It’s all about what customers need. We listen to them and we deliver quickly.”

  • The company’s product roadmap and future goals:

    • “Ultimately where do we want to get to? Our goal is to become the primary bank for all our customers.”

  • What makes the ideal Revolut hire:

    • “Keeping the bar high on talent has been a secret sauce of Revolut.”

  • And the company’s deepening roots in the UK:

    • “The office is a sign of our focus and commitment to the UK… establishing a place at the centre of the financial district was a big step.”
