Nationwide Building Society Extends Partnership with Visa

Visa announces today that it has been chosen by Nationwide to deliver Debit and Credit card products to its current account and credit card customers, who form part of the building society’s 16 million members. This extends a 35-year partnership between the two companies, as Nationwide retains Visa as its leading scheme provider.

The new agreement will help drive growth in current account and credit card issuing, to bring the value of Nationwide to a greater number of consumers across the UK. As a partnership first, Visa intends to provide Nationwide with services covering both card and account-to-account payment types. This evolved focus reflects the growing importance of consistent user experiences and fraud prevention needs across all payments.

Through the partnership, Nationwide and Visa will also work closely together to deliver greater value to UK high streets. This includes a series of new joint programmes to be announced.

Tom Riley, Director of Retail Products at Nationwide said: “Expanding our partnership with Visa is an important move, as it means we can continue to provide new innovative products and services to our current and future members. We’re excited to work together to deliver new ways to pay and protect our members’ money, so they continue to actively choose Nationwide.”

Mandy Lamb, Managing Director UK & Ireland at Visa said: “We’re proud to build on our long-standing relationship with Nationwide to deliver debit and credit solutions that its members will love. Our ambition is to ensure Nationwide members can pay and be paid with ease, while offering the security needed to pay with peace of mind. At Visa we have invested £8 billion in technology over the past five years, including to reduce fraud, and we look forward to continuing to expand our capabilities to keep customers safe.”
