About Tom Kelly

As a recognised expert in the payment industry, I am the strategic lead for Modulr’s commitment to creating simple, secure and reliable payment capabilities for SMEs and their accountants.

Through my work with accountancy practices and software vendors, I am focused on leading the conversation on digital transformation in the industry.

My career has spanned International payment strategy, virtual cards, commercial and consumer card sectors. After qualifying as a Chartered Banker, early in my career I decided to move from corporate and institutional banking to specialising in payments.

This gave me the opportunity to lead transformational projects including developing NatWest Offshore’s International Banking Centres and creating strategic Virtual Card solutions for RBS’ corporate customers. A career highlight was leading the scaling of the European Leisure Travel Virtual payments business at WEX.

Having worked with the major players in the payments industry, I wanted a new opportunity that would build on my experience within the payment industry while challenging my strategic abilities. I joined Modulr in July 2018, attracted by its forward-thinking environment.

Modulr’s award-winning Payments as Service API platform is built for businesses that need faster, easier and more reliable ways to move money. We were recently chosen from 76 applicants to receive a £10m grant from the Capability and Innovation Fund (CIF) to support SMEs with simple, secure and reliable payment capabilities. Modulr will be partnering with accountancy practices and software providers, including Sage, to roll out improved payment functionality.

I am keen to talk to accountants interested in making payment to their competitive advantage.
Accountancy is undergoing a revolutionary change. My role at Modulr allows me to be the forefront of that change – working to develop competitive solutions that will change the way accountants and their SME customers do business while also transforming traditional banking.
