About Tim Houstoun

Tim joined Global Shares in 2008 and his stewardship resulted in transitioning from a service business, with low margins and limited prospects, to a leading global fintech provider of employee equity management solutions. He led the company through a comprehensive software development phase, numerous rounds of fundraising, securing MiFID and SEC regulation and grew the business into a multi-million-dollar firm. Headquartered in Clonakilty, West Cork, Ireland, today Global Shares has 16 offices with operations in the US, EMEA and Asia, 350+ staff, $6Bn in client assets and is used by employees in 100+ countries worldwide. Global Shares is a privately held, substantially employee-owned firm. Tim graduated from the University of Manchester with a BA in Economics and Statistics. He trained at BDO in London and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Prior to joining Global Shares, he worked in the service sector for 20 years, including positions as CEO of Business Direct Group Plc and Chairman of Fast Track 100 Special Mail Services Plc. Tim is a Board Member of the American Coalition of Stock Plan Administrators (ACSPA). Tim is married to Máire and they have 4 children. In his spare time he enjoys sports, especially playing tennis, as well as pig farming, and the self-sufficiency that comes from looking after his small holding near Clonakilty. He is a strong advocate of building business in the beautiful West Cork region.
