As the future of retail shifts to mobile, his most recent venture - NewStore - takes advantage of this next major inflection point. The first to provide Omnichannel-as-a Service, NewStore integrates cloud-based order management and Mobile POS. Prior to NewStore, Stephan founded Demandware in 2004 and invented the first cloud-based eCommerce service. Demandware provides the leading ecommerce platform offering the industry's leading merchandising tools, total control for merchandisers & web developers, automated software upgrades and unlimited scalability & performance - as an on-demand service. The platform services more than 1600 high-growth branded websites and is growing business significantly in the North America, Europe and Asia. In March 2012, Demandware began trading on the New York Stock Exchange. The company was sold to Salesforce.com for $2.8 billion in Q2 2016 and is now known as Salesforce CommerceCloud. In the early 1990s, he was among the first to recognize ecommerce as a major software market. His company Intershop independently invented some of today's essential ecommerce industry standards and produced the first integrated ecommerce software package. He founded Intershop in 1992 and served as CEO until 2003. Stephan brought the company public on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange's Neuer Market in 1998 and it became NASDAQ listed in 2000.
