I am the Founder of SAM Sustainable Asset Management (now known as RobecoSAM) and Founder & CEO of Globalance Bank. SAM Group was a global pioneer in sustainable investments in 1995. It’s success galvanized the launch of Globalance Bank AG in 2011. In 1997, SAM launched the world’s first investment fund devoted solely to sustainability. There were a plethora of challenges during an age where my ideals were inverse to the market’s perception. But I stand by my belief that: It is financially worthwhile to invest sustainably! In 1999, we teamed up with Dow Jones, the owner of the Wall Street Journal to commit to creating an index that would track the most sustainable companies and their financial performance. Last year in 2019, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index is celebrating its 20-year anniversary. The success it garnered ever since then had emboldened my vision to be part of building a sustainable world to put more emphasis on sustainability and invest in a sustainable future and in 2008 I decided to leave my comfort zone. In that, I found in Robeco Group a shared vision and handed SAM over to them, allowing me the opportunity to rethink and reshape the banking industry towards a more sustainable future.
