Nick Nadgauda's entire background is in businesses where technology is a revenue driver. Over his two decades at Citi he has been an integral part in growing, steering and shaping the vision and technology for the Treasury and Trade Solutions (TTS) business. Not surprisingly, the most profitable business at the largest and most global payments bank is a technology business and TTS has become its crown jewel.
Growing up in a family of engineers, Nick was always building — from Legos to Erector sets. Then Nick Nadgauda got his first computer — a Commodore Amiga. Back then computer magazines were filled with programs and he spend hours typing them into the computer, getting them to run, and then modifying them to see what else he could do.
This carried through to his first job at Motorola Research, where his creativity for tech led to six patents for different ways to send voice and data over wireless network. Even at a big bank, creativity is still in his DNA. Nick Nadgauda loves coming up with ideas and turning them into tangible products, executing on the vision in practical ways.
Some of Nick Nadgauda's biggest accomplishments include:
• Taking over his department in 2018 and doubling the size and influence. What used to be an order taking department now has a seat at the table driving business strategy. They’ve not only increased engineers and technical capacity but evolved from vendor focus to employee focus.
• Driving the creation and implementation of Citi’s Payment Express Platform. This platform is key to growing Citi’s client base from more traditional F100s to ecommerce companies. It took years to get buy in but he believed in this program and what they’ve created has grown exponentially and put Citi on the map in terms of technology.
• Co-Founding a start-up messaging software company: This was the most Nick Nadgauda has learned at anything and taught me to be uncomfortable with uncertainty and failure while also teaching me how to sell, communicate and have a vision.
Nick Nadgauda is responsible for managing a budget of $1.2B and a staff of 11K, but He leads with humility. Rational and reserved with a flexible leadership style, he speaks the language of complex systems and use data as a proof point. This allows him to get the most from his team, provide them with the flexibility they need to grow, and work seamlessly across different personalities.
