About Muazzam Mohamed

Muazzam Mohamed joined Bank Islam in May 2015 as the Chief Financial Officer and became the Chief Executive Officer in December 2018. At Bank Islam, he chairs various Management-level Committees. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of several companies within the Bank Islam group. A key highlight during his tenure in BIMB Group is the completion of the group restructuring in October 2021 where Bank Islam took over the listing status from BIMB Holdings and became the only standalone Islamic bank to be listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia. Another notable achievement was the launch of “Be U” in July 2022, a fully cloud-native digital banking app, being the first-of-its-kind in Malaysia. Before that, Muazzam Mohamed was with KPMG from February 1997 until April 2015. He was a Partner of KPMG and Executive Director of KPMG’s Management Consulting practice. In the earlier part of his KPMG career, he spent almost nine years in Financial Audit (including a two-year secondment to KPMG London). In the latter part of his KPMG career, Muazzam Mohamed spent almost nine years in Management Consulting, leading numerous advisory projects in the public and private sectors. At the industry level, Muazzam Mohamed is presently the President of the Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM), a Council member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), and the Chairman of the Islamic Finance Committee of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). Muazzam Mohamed serves as a Board member of Financial Industry Collective Outreach (FINCO) and IBFIM. Muazzam Mohamed currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation and CEO@Faculty at the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia.
