About Mohamed Assem

Mohamed Assem has a diversified 20 years of experience in the digital payment and financial services industry. His career began as a software developer at ITWORX and a professor teacher assistant. In 2002, he joined Giesecke & Devrient as a software developer specializing in Smartcard programming and payment security. He later became the Payment Operation Manager and an EMV consultant for banks in the MEA region. During his tenure, he was also part of the team responsible for shaping the company’s global product strategy. In 2009, he joined Mastercard to help build the mobile payment ecosystem in Egypt. Over the years, he held various roles in business development, product development, government relations, and sales. In 2018, he was appointed as Country Manager for Egypt. He worked closely with technology companies, fintechs, banks, governments, and regulators to help develop the payment landscape in Egypt and across the MEA region. Throughout this journey, he honed several skills, including design thinking, strategic thinking, strategy execution, leadership, transformation, business modeling, and product development. Mohamed Assem brings experience from previous roles at CIB Egypt, Mastercard and Giesecke & Devrient. Mohamed Assem holds a 2000 - 2001 Master's degree in Computer Engineering @ Cairo University.
