About Liam Cheung

Dr. Liam Cheung is a founder and managing director at Tactico Inc. a VC firm based in Montreal, Canada. Liam has over 25 years of hands-on expertise in the financial services and technology sectors. At Tactico, he has built and led a team that has made over two dozen investments, more than a dozen exits, with top quartile returns. Dr. Cheung successfully executed numerous mandates for portfolio companies including Moka Technologies, Willful, Fidelity Clearing Canada, Omega ATS, and JitneyTrade. Liam has held executive positions relating to strategy, technology and operations for brokerage and trading businesses throughout North America, Asia and Europe. Prior to founding Tactico, he was instrumental in successfully establishing new businesses, divisions and/or initiatives for several brokerage and trading technology companies, including an execution routing technology firm, a direct market access division for global equity, options, foreign exchange and fixed income trading, an automated algorithmic trading technologies division, a hedge fund infrastructure firm that included trading and capital introduction, and the implementation of a representative office in Asia. Dr. Cheung is an associate of the Society of Actuaries and holds the chartered financial analyst designation. He additionally holds a Ph.D in Economics from McGill University, as well as a M.Sc in Management and a Bachelor of Mathematics degree.
