About Laura Bennett
I bring my actuarial and entrepreneurial acumen to an industry going through a transformation.
I recently joined Chubb, the world’s largest publicly-traded P&C company, to create and grow Chubb’s digital personal lines insurance business in North America. Prior to that I provided InsurTech consulting services in the US and internationally, working with everything from startups to large companies looking to build new insurance businesses.
I co-founded and led Embrace Pet Insurance since 2003. Embrace went from 2 people with an idea to a 100+ person high-growth company, insuring over 100,000 pets with $52 million annualized premium. I raised $7 million in angel, venture, & private capital and secured and implemented partnerships with 3 different underwriters. As one of the first InsurTech companies, we pushed the pet insurance industry into the future with direct to consumer digital marketing, sales, & fulfillment.
Prior to Embrace, I worked in various actuarial and leadership roles at a large life & health insurance company in Toronto and Dublin for 12 years before obtaining my MBA from the Wharton School of Business where I graduated as Palmer & Siebel Scholars.
I was the first US pet insurance actuary and named to the Society of Actuaries’ Top 100 Actuarial Pioneers for developing the actuarial models behind the leading edge customizable pet insurance product. I was also the Board Chair of NAPHIA, the North American Pet Health Insurance Association, for 4 of the 8 years I was on the Board.
I frequently speak on topics including: InsurTech; leadership; pet insurance; entrepreneurship; female entrepreneurs; the actuarial science of pet insurance; young women and science; social media; and changing careers.
