About Khalid Elgibaly

Khalid Elgibaly is President of the Middle East and North Africa Division(MENA) at Mastercard. Based in Dubai, he is responsible for leading the company’s dynamic MENA business – driving growth and innovation to meet market-specific needs, form new partnerships and deliver on Mastercard’s continued commitment to invest in the region. Since joining Mastercard in 2016, Khalid has helped reinforce the company’s position as a technology leader and trusted payments advisor to regional governments, enabling the successful execution of national-level programs that support their digital agendas and long-term visions. Furthermore, he spearheaded Mastercard’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic in MENA, as the company supported governments, businesses, SMEs and consumers in combatting the impact of the pandemic through the power of digital commerce. From driving commercial growth through diversification of revenue streams, and building strategic partnerships with the region’s leading public and private stakeholders, Khalid is on a mission to drive financial inclusion and payments innovation in the region through Mastercard’s multi-rail network strategy. Khalid Elgibaly has held several senior positions at leading financial institutions including HSBC Middle East, Standard Chartered Bank, Barclays and Citigroup, and brings a wealth of experience to the role alongside a deep understanding of the region’s economic landscape. Fluent in six languages, Khalid holds a BA in Economics from the American University in Cairo and an MBA from Strathclyde Graduate Business School in Glasgow. A Global Business and People Leader with over 30 years of varied experience across a broad spectrum of industries, functions, and geographies. Worked for circa 15 years for 3 notable FMCG powerhouses, namely, P&G, Kuwait Food Company, and Unilever in a variety of Business Development roles across, the USA, UK, Egypt, Kuwait and UAE. A senior executive who thinks long-term, evaluating the diverse options, and is adept at translating a vision into a thought-through plan, and subsequently executing it with single-minded clarity and focus. A hard worker, setting stretch goals for self and the team, and getting not just a lot done but the right things. Effective in working out priorities and maintaining a sense of direction. Very importantly, focuses on forging strong relationships with team members which last the course and which contribute to the sense of identification with the organization. Flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks with ease and to get others excited about the challenges they face as a team.
