Gautam Aggarwal oversees all of Mastercard’s activities across South Asia, including business strategy, sales, product management, marketing, and engagements with customers and regulators. As head of the firm’s South Asia division, he leads operations across the sub-continent, covering Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan, and India. From 2019-2022, he served as Regional Chief Technology Officer for Asia Pacific. As a member of Mastercard’s AP management team, Gautam Aggarwal spearheaded $1.2Bn in technology investments. His accomplishments include: a) driving the delivery of the first PBOC-certified bankcard clearing switch developed by a foreign network, enabling Mastercard’s domestic market entry in China; b) overseeing the development and execution of a regional hub for real-time payments; and c) delivering various on-soil processing solutions in India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Prior to this, Gautam Aggarwal was Group Head & SVP of Domestic & Real-time Payments (RTP), where he forged Mastercard's partnerships with domestic schemes to provide RTP technologies in AP. He created strong demand for RTP technology adoption and executed Mastercard’s multi-rail consumer choice strategy by building a strong sales pipeline. He also led negotiations and executed a long-term commercial agreement with BancNet, the Philippines' domestic switch, to provide technology and manage operations for the national payments infrastructure, which became the largest and fastest executed deal in Mastercard’s RTP history. Gautam Aggarwal joined Mastercard as VP of Strategy, Corporate Development, and M&A, where he architected the multi-rail strategy that led to Mastercard's $1Bn acquisition of UK-based Vocalink. Additionally, he formulated Mastercard's country strategy that led to significant investments in India and developed a partnership-led approach with domestic schemes and regulators to tackle payment localization. He also shaped Mastercard’s Digital Identity strategy. Before Mastercard, he was an Engagement Manager in the Corporate Finance & Strategy practice of McKinsey & Company in New York. Gautam Aggarwal began his career at Deem, a Silicon Valley startup, where he spent eight years in product development and played a pivotal role in securing $100Mn in Round-D funding from Chase and Amex. Gautam Aggarwal holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with honors, and earned both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science from Cornell University and Manipal Institute of Technology, respectively.
