About Dr. Chiente Hsu

Dr. Chiente Hsu, A recognized expert in the field of quantitative investments, Dr. Chiente Hsu has been involved in nearly every segment of the industry—as an executive, an author, an academic, and an advocate for women in finance. She recently cofounded ALEX, a revolutionary fintech firm focused on crypto investing, and will serve as its CEO. As the first DeFi on Bitcoin via Stack's Smart contracts, ALEX is disrupting the financial industry by efficiently connecting participants at both the institutional and individual levels. ALEX brings together Dr. Chiente Hsu’s 25-plus years in financial services and her personal mission to promote women in finance. ALEX is pledging to offer numerous internships to young women interested in fintech. Dr. Chiente Hsu ’s hope is that through programs like this one that inspire and expose young women to financial markets, she will no longer stand alone as one of the few females in a room full of fellow “quants.” She joins ALEX from Morgan Stanley, where she was a Managing Director and Global Head of Quantitative Investment Strategy Research. Over the course of her tenure, she spearheaded the cross-asset effort to develop content-driven quant products that have been utilized globally. Due to her endeavors, including authoring many of the most popular industry research papers, Morgan Stanley is recognized as a leader in QIS and content. She started her investment banking career at Credit Suisse, where she held a variety of roles from 1998 to 2013. Her last position was as the Global Head of Alpha Strategies, a title she held starting in 2009. Her accomplishments included: leading the QIS businesses to several billion AUM; chairing the QIS Committee to coordinate the bank's global effort; and serving as an internal advisor for risk and platform evaluation for the Fixed Income Management Committee. From 2015 to 2018, she was a Managing Partner at QCAM, a specialist in foreign exchange. While there, she developed a currency overlay product and was shortlisted as ‘Currency Manager of the Year’ for the 2018 European Pensions Award. A longtime proponent of educating everyone to become effective investors, Dr. Chiente Hsu wrote Rule Based Investing. Published in 2014 by FT Press, the book gained accolades as an elegantly simple rule based framework for earning persistent returns. Dr. Chiente Hsu spent her early career in academia. She was a tenure-track professor at the University of Vienna, Austria, and a visiting professor at Duke University, where she taught and conducted research in Financial Econometrics. She has published widely in major academic journals.
