About BJ McAndrews

BJ McAndrews is co-founder and CEO of Flyp Financial, which is a new, modern, inclusive way to bank. Flyp isn’t building a new bank; it’s building a new system. There are more than 60 million Americans who are ignored by traditional banks and finance companies. Flyp wants to make banking fun, social and rewarding – and do it without any hidden fees. It also means letting consumers keep more of their money, giving them quicker access to their paychecks, rewarding them with up to 110% cash back and providing the tools, education and inspiration to get them where they want to go. Flyp was founded with the idea of wiping out the upward mobility crisis that plagues the United States and understanding that everyone benefits when everyone is included. That’s Flyp’s “why.” BJ and fellow Flyp co-founder Gary Zukowski are big fans of Simon Sinek, motivational speaker and author of “Start With Why.” That’s the reason for the `y’ in Flyp: There has to be a “why” in the middle of everything you do. While BJ built a nearly 30-year investment career before building Flyp, he understands the financial pain points that many Americans face at one time or another. He grew up in a one-bedroom house in Staten Island, New York. He’s the oldest of three children and remembers hearing his parents whisper their worries about paying the mortgage or the electric bill. He said to himself he would never let that happen to him, so after college he went straight to Wall Street. More recently, he sees the struggles – and the hopes and dreams for better – of those he serves through his volunteer work. Through his church, he leads a group of men committed to serving the community, including their homeless neighbors. He also is a board member of What’s Next Ministry, which helps develop young men into leaders and mentors. At work, in the community and in the world, BJ wants to be part of the solution. His mantra: Strong finances lead to strong families, and strong families lead to strong communities. That’s his “why.” BJ earned his bachelor’s degree in English and economics from Montclair State University, where he played varsity baseball for two years. He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his wife and three children. When he’s not working on Flyp or volunteering, he’s hanging out and watching sports – namely baseball – with his family. When BJ can’t sit still, which is often, he’s out running, skiing and mountain climbing – and has completed many triathlons – Olympic, full, as well as half and full Ironman events.
