About Amanda Blanc
Amanda Blanc is the Group CEO of Aviva Plc, the leading FTSE100 international savings, retirement and insurance business. Aviva has 31 million customers, £535 billion of group assets under management and 28,000 people.
In addition to being appointed as HMG’s Women in Finance Champion in 2021, she is also the Chair of the Welsh Professional Rugby Board and a board member at the Welsh Rugby Union.
Amanda has carried a wide ranging portfolio across a variety of Board positions. She has chaired many organisations, subsidiaries and committees and sat on various regulated boards across Europe.
She is the former Chair of the Association of British Insurers, a past President of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a former Chair of the Insurance Fraud Bureau, a previous Chair of the ABI’s General Insurance Committee and a past member of the UK Takeover Panel.
Amanda’s appointments have included Chair at Lloyd’s of London syndicate ERS; Non Executive Director and Governance Committee Chair at Aviva Plc; Non Executive Director at New York based OSG Services on behalf of Aquiline Capital Partners and she also acted as Senior Advisor to the leading global insurtech firm Trōv.
Amanda was previously CEO of Zurich Insurance Group, EMEA & Global Banking comprising of 14 countries and 33 million customers across property, casualty, life and bancassurance segments. In addition she was the Chair of Zurich Insurance Plc, one of five ultra-high-risk companies registered in Ireland and was the most senior woman within the Zurich Group.
Amanda joined Zurich from success at AXA Group where she was Group CEO of AXA UK, PPP & Ireland, turning around the loss-making entity and taking it to a number two market position. Key to this was the delivery of a sustained period of organic growth and the disposal of non-core assets such as BlueFin Insurance Services.
Amanda moved to AXA in 2011 from the distribution consolidator Towergate Insurance Brokers where she was Deputy Group CEO, responsible for over 60 acquisitions and their subsequent integration. She has also held executive roles at Groupama, Ernst & Young and Aviva plc.
Amanda is focused on the areas of innovation, digital, fintech and big data; the customer, risk and regulation; gender parity, diversity and inclusion. She is known for her charismatic leadership and has been named Woman of Achievement by Women in the City, twice been voted the UK Insurer CEO’s CEO of the Year (2013 & 2015) and featured on the 2019 list of Yahoo Finance’s 100 Women Executives and 2020 Forbes list of the World’s 100 most powerful women.
