About Ali Khan

With over 20 years of work experience in software engineering, cloud computing, AI, and complex systems design, Ali Khan is the Group Digital & Information Officer at UniCredit, a leading European bank. As a member of the Group Executive Committee, he is responsible for driving the digital transformation and innovation strategy of the bank, leveraging his expertise in AI, software development, data, and Cloud. He joined UniCredit in September 2023, after a successful tenure as a Partner at PwC, where he led the US Industry Cloud and Asset-Based Solutions practice, and the US Cloud Engineering Capability. In these roles, he helped clients across various industries adopt cloud-based solutions, optimize business processes, and enhance performance and resilience.
He is passionate about applying his knowledge and skills to create value for UniCredit, its customers, stakeholders, and employees, as well as contributing to the advancement of the financial sector and society at large. He holds a Master of Science in Complex Systems Design from MIT, a Master of Science in Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Bachelor of Science in Econometrics from Purdue University. He also has an Associate's degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Across his previous roles at PwC and EY, he has accumulated deep experience of working with major international banks - including HSBC, Citi and UniCredit itself - having led the framing of the cloud strategy and corresponding execution for multiple boards of some of the largest banks in the US and Europe. As part of this, he has successfully designed, built and led some of the largest migrations in financial services from hosted and mainframe portfolios to public and private clouds across Microsoft, Google and Amazon.
Beyond complex transformations, Ali also has deep functional expertise in banking, having designed and built core banking systems, credit card platforms, regulatory, risk and compliance solutions, mortgage and lending systems, global and regional payment rails, and finance and regulatory reporting systems.
He is also experienced in working with bank regulators in both Europe and the US, managing IT risk portfolios from multiple perspectives, including governance, operating model, change management, geography, cyber, data and cloud, as well as business continuity and recovery planning.
