Zego grows engineering team to 100 as it doubles down on data and technology

Commercial motor insurance provider Zego has bolstered its engineering team, hiring its hundredth engineer last week, as the company continues to advance its innovative use of data and technology to more accurately assess risk and price policies.

Zego has grown its workforce across all departments by 42% since the start of the year, and has gone from 47 engineers in December to 100 and counting today. The fast-growing engineering team spearheads the company’s continued innovation in risk assessment and pricing.  Zego engineers also play a central role in developing the company’s products, which are tailored for businesses ranging from self-employed drivers and riders right through to global fleets – bp being an example of a recent partnership.

Zego continues to uphold its pledge to be a highly diverse, inclusive and supportive working environment. The insurer is growing rapidly, but has been able to maintain a high level of diversity within its ranks, with more than one in three engineering leadership positions being held by women, including the CTO, and almost a quarter (24%) of the entire team being made up by women too.

The recruitment drive comes just a few months after Zego raised $150m in its Series C round of funding which saw it become the UK’s first insurtech unicorn and the UK’s biggest insurtech brand.

Kingsley Macy, Chief People officer, said: “Zego has established itself as a leading employer, with a proven track record of bringing in the most sought-after diverse talent in a highly competitive market. With each hire, Zego is able to innovate further whilst maintaining the same diverse pool of talent that made this growth possible.”

Sean King, Director of Engineering at Zego, said: “Zego’s engineering team continues to grow in numbers and strength. As a modern, tech driven business we want to keep building on the amazing talent we already have in this department, so that we can deliver great products for our customers.”

Zego is actively hiring across all departments and geographical locations – vacancies can be found here. Zego recently hired Julien Carmona (ex-AXA and Setoo) as Head of Sales for France as the company continues to grow in the UK and Europe too.
