Wise to hire more than 1,000 people next year

Since 2011, Wise has grown from a small start-up, to a global company with 17 offices in locations including London, New York and Singapore, and Wisers from 90+ nationalities, along with a few office dogs.

Wise are now helping over 11 million people and businesses save £1bn in fees every year. But they’re nowhere near the finish line: £150bn annually is still lost to hidden fees. Their mission of money without borders is an ambitious one, and they need great people to join Wise to help them get there.

That’s why they’re looking to hire more than 1,000 people globally next year*, from Budapest to Singapore to their new office in Austin (yes, that’s where they’re opening a third US base). Wise are hiring in all their teams, from product marketing, to engineering and customer support.

These roles will cover projects across their mission pillars, including working to lower fees, making payments faster for more markets, expanding the Wise Business offering, and building new partnerships around the world.

“We may be a little biased, but it’s a really exciting time to join our mission.”

2021 has been a big year at Wise. They celebrated their 10th birthday, rebranded from TransferWise to Wise, and became the first tech company to undergo a direct listing on the London Stock Exchange.

This has all been exciting, but their first and foremost a mission-driven business, and the progress they’ve made towards achieving their ultimate goal is what they’re most proud of.

They’ve shipped some great things that helped their customers move money across borders:

  • Wise have launched Assets, the UK’s first multi-currency investment opportunity, that allows real time spending for money held in stocks.
  • Established major partnerships, like their integration with the Google Pay App, which allowed US customers to send money to other Google Pay users in India and Singapore.
  • Enabled customers to receive money in any currency via their email address.
  • Opened new currency routes so customers can now send money from INR.

“At Wise, we work in autonomous teams.”

Building these products requires pretty unique ways of working. At Wise, they work in autonomous teams: they say that they’re like a group of startups within a scaleup.

How does this work, exactly? Each team can identify and solve problems for their customers, and collaborate in the way that suits them best. Equally, each Wiser can take ownership of their work, and have a direct impact on their customers. You can read more about what that looks like here.

Eleven years in, there’s still a lot of problems left to solve for Wise’ customers. Earlier this year, they launched their product roadmap to share regular updates with both customers and future Wisers on what they’re currently building, and what they’re planning to do in the future. Wise call this, “working with the garage door open”.

With plans like these, Wise need more people to join their mission worldwide to help them out. Check out their open positions here, and help Wise build the future of international money.
