The Insurtech Magazine #08
Passing the mid-year threshold, the last couple of months have seen some ferocious tides hit the insurtech world. From a drop in investment to the growing threats of flooding catastrophe, the macro events of the world have caught up with insurers.
This issue of The Insurtech Magazine interrogates the great challenges affecting the industry, namely where to turn to for quality opportunity and investment, and how insurtech fits into the growing presence of economic and climate insecurity.
In a sweeping cross-section of the industry, we spoke to a global gambit of insurance leaders, from U.S. everyman Ron Rock, the Senior Director of Insurance and Insurtech at JobsOhio, to Faster Claims Payments trailblazer Phillip McGriskin, the CEO of Vitesse PSP. Topics on the chopping block included technology-focused partnerships, the potential in U.S. investment, experimentation in UK mobility, and of course, the issue on everybody’s mind – climate change.
Head of Product at McKenzie Intelligence Services, Rosina Smith, and the CEO and Co-Founder of newfound carbon insurer Kita, Natalia Dorfman, explain in detail the colossal threat of rising CO2 and flood levels, and what exactly insurers can do about that. Looking at the recent flooding in Southern Asia, it is now essential for re/insurers to combat this crisis.
“For startups that raised significant amounts of money in 2020 and 2021 on shaky fundamentals, the current environment may become extremely painful, if not life-ending,” proclaimed CCO of Insurtech Insights and magazine contributor, Bradley Collins.
the concluding quarter of this year will highlight the industry’s strengths and drag out its weaknesses. If anything, the volatility of the market will only clarify the real issues in insurance and what we should, as a global ecosystem, focus our energy and investments toward.
Whether it’s claims conundrums in the UK, or technology innovation in the States, FF News has travelled far and wide to uncover the biggest stories happening in insurance today, all of which you can find in this issue!
