Starling Bank Connected Card

Starling Bank’s Connected Card has been endorsed by the Royal Voluntary Service and the national disability charity Scope, which campaigns to challenge and change negative attitudes about disability.

The organisations have recognised it as a trusted payment card for the vulnerable and those self-isolating, to give to anyone they trust to pay for groceries and other essential items on their behalf. As part of this, the Royal Voluntary Society has also recommended the card for NHS Volunteers Responders to use.

Why is the Connected card helpful?

  • No credit checks.
  • Prepaid means you can never be overdrawn.
  • Ease of use in all retailers that accept Mastercard.
  • Keeps your PIN safe as Contactless is set at £45 so you don’t need to share it with anyone.
  • Friends and family can easily top up the card via bank transfer, debit or credit card.
  • Check balance and cardholder history on the PFS cardholder portal.
  • ATM switched off for hygiene reasons.

The news comes as the consumer champion Which? published a report today which revealed that vulnerable people are at risk of being left with no way to pay for essential products and services, finding that 51% of those looking after the finances or grocery shopping of someone else had been paid in cash in return for doing shopping.

Since the launch on 8th April, over 15,500 cards have been ordered by Starling customers with groceries being the lead spending category
