RegTech stream at FinTech North gives delegates the opportunity to influence policy

The RegTech session at FinTech North Leeds 2019 is hosted by DAC Beachcroft and will feature speakers from banks, building societies, tech companies, and the Financial Conduct Authority

The fourth annual FinTech North Leeds will have a dedicated Regulatory Technology session for the first time, in partnership with DAC Beachcroft.

FinTech North Leeds 2019 will take place on 23rd May at Cloth Hall Court. In the afternoon, delegates will be able to choose from three distinctive “streams”, to participate in the sessions most relevant to them.

The RegTech stream will be hosted by DAC Beachcroft, and will bring together regulators, the UK Government Treasury, banks, building societies, financial services firms, and innovative FinTech companies. There will be a mix of keynote speakers, panel discussions, and showcases.

The aim of the session is to explore the various opportunities that RegTech initiatives bring to financial services, especially in how it can enable the industry to innovate, whilst keeping customers’ data secure.

The RegTech stream will be chaired by Chris Sier, FinTech Envoy to HM Treasury. Tom Simpson, Director of Compliance at Yorkshire Building Society, will talk about addressing customer concerns with RegTech, whilst Peter Thomas, Senior Manager, PRA Data, from the Bank of England will share his thoughts on supporting suppliers and their customers through regulation. Prakash Kerai, partner and FinTech lead at DAC Beachcroft, will share his insights on the customer journey as both a tech lawyer and tech consumer.

The session will also showcase how DAC Beachcroft supports innovations in RegTech, featuring Recordsure, which collects and analyses customer interaction data. Jonathan Drechsler, Head of Business Development at Recordsure, will appear alongside DAC Beachcroft Senior Associate, Sophie Devlin. Joining them on stage will be Ryan Morrison, Director of Leeds-based TruNarrative, a platform that enables advanced detection and management of financial crime.

Delegates will be given opportunities to directly interact with the regulators, to share their experiences and ask questions about the opportunities in RegTech.

Also part of the impressive line-up is a panel that focuses on how to align technology, innovation and regulation with customer need. Experts from DAC Beachcroft – including Partner and head of Leeds office, Michael Peeters – will be joined by speakers that include Nick Cook, Director of Innovation at the FCA, and Valeria Gallo, Advisor, Technology Policy and Innovation at ICO. Experts from the FCA have regularly spoken at previous FinTech North events.

Michael Peeters, Partner at DAC Beachcroft, commented:

“As long-time supporters of FinTech North, we were keen to support the RegTech stream at FinTech North Leeds 2019. Compliance isn’t easy; there are huge amounts of data to manage and analyse, and yet the regulation is there to boost innovation and protect everybody, from financial services organisations right through to the end customers, and even the economy itself. The RegTech space is especially exciting because it allows the processes to be simplified and shortened, offering greater protection for all.”

“RegTech represents a huge opportunity to give customers better services. The session on the 23rd May offers a chance to hear from the regulators about how they are working with tech firms throughout the whole journey of new innovations, and directly influence policies by taking part in the discussions on the day.”

Topics will include open banking, and how RegTech is bridging the gap between banks and building societies and their customer’s expectations and journey.

The dedicated RegTech session has been introduced following the success the Compliance and RegTech event held by FinTech North in January. Tickets for FinTech North Leeds 2019 are available at: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/fintech-north-leeds-conference-2019-tickets-54339402616
