PayPoint urges local councils to offer Cash Out option to ease hardship for School Meal and Winter Hardship voucher benefiters

Following the start of a 3rd national lockdown and the government’s commitment to continue to support COVID-19 related hardship funds, digital payments expert PayPoint is urging local councils to pay out benefits using its Cash Out offering to deliver immediate financial relief.

PayPoint’s Cash Out solution is currently used by over 90 councils and housing organisations across the UK, many of whom are actively using it to support their School Meal Voucher and Covid Related Hardship Funds schemes. Councils delivering vouchers to eligible families via PayPoint – which in turn can be used to obtain a cash payment opposed to an eGift voucher – are giving them access to receive a payment via a network of circa. 27,500 locations within convenience stores across the country, including Sainsburys, Tesco, Asda, The Co-op, Spar, and One-Stop. Over 99% of urban households are within 1 mile of a PayPoint location, and 98.3% of rural households within 5 miles.

Danny Vant, Client Services Director of PayPoint commented; “Our technology and payment infrastructure enables organisations to issue digital or physical vouchers to their customers, which can be real-time authorised via the PayPoint in-store technology enabling customers to obtain cash payments in any one of our 27,500 retailers. The solution can be quickly and effectively implemented, something which may be beneficial given the required rapid deployment of the government fund initiatives to combat the financial consequences of the Coronavirus pandemic.”
