Newcastle Strategic Solutions Take First Steps into the Cloud with Mobile Savings App

The UK’s leading provider of third party online savings management services has extended its client proposition with the development of a new app-based mobile platform.

Newcastle Strategic Solutions designed the savings app as a white-label product which its parent company Newcastle Building Society is the first client brand to adopt. Developed in collaboration with Newcastle-based software consultancy, Scott Logic, the app uses newly created APIs to enable rapid product innovation and is Solutions’ first step towards achieving their vision for cloud adoption.

Originally conceived with teams working on-site together, the project was completed remotely and the platform was first launched during the national lockdown following the COVID-19 outbreak.

Phil Grand, managing director of Newcastle Strategic Solutions, said: “We’re thrilled to be taking the first steps on our cloud journey with the development of this mobile-based app. The customer is always at the heart of our approach so it was vital that we created a product flexible enough to be tailored to the requirements of Newcastle Strategic Solutions’ client brands.

“It’s also why we were keen to bring in world-leading UX expertise in the shape of Scott Logic and have adopted an approach which firmly establishes a new cloud-based infrastructure and expands our continuous deployment pipeline capability to enable rapid incremental product releases in the future.”

Testing was embedded throughout the design phase with a successful beta release for Newcastle Building Society customers and full penetration and performance testing of the cloud infrastructure.

Sam Perridge, head of consultancy (Newcastle) at Scott Logic, said: “We were delighted to work with Newcastle Strategic Solutions on the design and development of their first mobile app, with the end-user experience always at the front of mind. Remote working is in our DNA as a company, enabling us to support Solutions in sustaining delivery even as COVID-19 changed the circumstances around delivery.

“We know the challenges faced by financial services clients, so in our role as trusted strategic advisor, we were able to provide vital advice on how to optimise the new cloud architecture as a value driver.”
