NatWest launch ClearSpend app to support business spending

NatWest has rolled out a new app to help businesses digitally manage company spending.

ClearSpend is a free mobile app for NatWest Commercial Card customers enabling businesses real time visibility and control of their company card spending.

The first of its kind, the app has been rolled out following a trial featuring over 100 customers last year.

Alison Rose, CEO of Commercial and Private Banking at NatWest, said: “Administering a commercial card programme can be ineffective and time consuming, as customers do not always have access to the up to date information businesses need and customers are often required to call a help desk to make simple account changes.

ClearSpend aims to solve that problem and I’m delighted that we’re now able to make it available to all of our NatWest Commercial Card Customers.

Throughout the pilot we’ve made a number of improvements and hope the changes will continue to help customers to more effectively manage their commercial cards and expenses.

We will continue to develop the app as we go to make sure it is supporting businesses in the best possible way and helping them to operate safely and securely.

Following the trial, ClearSpend now links directly to the card processor, which enables users to see transactions as they happen including real-time balance and credit limit information.

There is also improved functionality for the customer to manage their account, including setting credit limits and merchant category blocking.

The app was developed in partnership with Silicon Valley start up SpendLabs.

ClearSpend will be available for NatWest, Commercial Card customers on iOS, Android phones and through a web browser. Royal Bank of Scotland, RBS International, Coutts and Ulster Bank Commercial Card customers will be able to access to ClearSpend later this year.
