Lloyds Banking Group appoints Group Chief Operating Officer

Lloyds Banking Group today announced Ron van Kemenade as its new Group Chief Operating Officer.

Ron will join Lloyds Banking Group next year, subject to regulatory approval, from ING, where he is the Chief Technology Officer and a member of their group executive committee. With 20 years’ experience in the financial sector, Ron has held several senior technology positions. As the first Chief Technology Officer at ING, he has been instrumental in transforming its business to a customer-focused, data-driven digital bank.

Charlie Nunn, Group CEO at Lloyds Banking Group, said: “This is a pivotal role for our business given the pace of tech innovation and the importance of technology and data as a key enabler to helping us deliver our long-term growth strategy.

“I’m delighted that Ron is joining our executive team. He brings a wealth of experience in business transformation and I’m excited that we’ve found someone who is so passionate about our purpose and using technology to deliver great experiences for our customers”.

Ron van Kemenade said: “I’m really looking forward to being a part of Lloyds Banking Group’s exciting growth plans and working with the team to drive forward their ongoing technology transformation. Lloyds Banking Group plays an important role in communities up and down the UK and I’m ready to add my energy and play my part in helping Britain prosper.”

This appointment is in line with the new strategy and reorganisation announced by Charlie Nunn earlier this year. Ron will join Lloyds Banking Group in June 2023 and will be responsible for driving the technology and data strategy and leading the technology teams. This includes overseeing the recently created Chief Information Officers which support the technology transformation across the new business units, helping to accelerate the pace at which we use technology and data to support customers.

Until then, and as stated previously, David Oldfield will continue in his interim Group Chief Operating Officer role and support Ron as he transitions into the role.
