Hyundai Card Expands Payment Convenience With LINE Pay Partnership for QR Code Payments in Taiwan

Hyundai Card announced today a strategic partnership with LINE Pay, a digital wallet service offered by LINE, to enable QR code payment capabilities for its users in Taiwan. Through this collaboration, the company aims to provide its cardholders with a more streamlined, efficient, and safe payment experience, especially while traveling abroad.

Hyundai Card users can now enjoy seamless QR code payments through the Hyundai Card app at more than 600,000 merchants across Taiwan, thanks to integration with LINE Pay. When a Hyundai Card user launches the app in Taiwan, it automatically provides a menu that offers access to this newly rolled-out LINE Pay service. This feature allows cardholders to easily scan or present QR codes and barcodes at diverse locations, including convenience stores, hypermarkets, restaurants, street markets, and more.

LINE Pay has maintained the top spot in Taiwan’s simple payment industry for several years with over 13 million users in Taiwan. As of 2024, the number of transactions through LINE Pay reached 1.136 billion with a transaction amount of NT $756 billion.

Hyundai Card and LINE Pay will additionally offer a map via the Hyundai Card app, enabling travelers to easily locate popular shops and restaurants that accept LINE Pay. Users can easily access travel tips and recommendations for a more seamless and enjoyable journey.

This collaboration with LINE Pay signifies an important step in expanding Hyundai Card’s global payment services. As the leading Korean credit card brand abroad, Hyundai Card aims to strengthen its foothold in the global fintech market.

“We are excited to announce a partnership with LINE Pay to provide cardholders with enhanced convenience for payment options while traveling in Taiwan,” said a Hyundai Card spokesperson. “Hyundai Card will continue broadening global outreach to seek further business opportunities in the overseas market.”

Even before its partnership with LINE Pay, Hyundai Card has been focused on improving the convenience of overseas use for its card members. One of the primary examples is EMV contactless payments. EMV, which stands for Europay, Mastercard, and Visa, is a globally recognized standard in NFC (Near-Field Communication) payments that accounts for 90% of the contactless payment market. Although renowned for its speed, ease of use, security, and reliability, the EMV standard has been slow to expand in the Korean payment ecosystem. On the contrary, Hyundai Card has been a leader in the industry issuing cards that support contactless payments since 2017. Currently all cards issued by Hyundai Card support EMV contactless payments allowing overseas payments for Hyundai Card members safe and convenient.

Hyundai Card is committed to providing its cardholders with unique and culturally enriching experiences that go beyond traditional perks such as discounts or cashback. As part of its longstanding collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the company offers the MoMA Pass, granting free entry for up to three individuals. Additionally, Hyundai Card is expanding its cultural reach by partnering with renowned museums in Japan and prominent brands across the realms of shopping, culture, and travel, enhancing the travel experiences of its members. Hyundai Card also offers a Travel Desk service, an overseas travel concierge service that provides various travel-related consultations such as reservations for flights, public transportation, and accommodations to its premium members. Top-class members may also get customized professional supports in case of emergencies while traveling abroad.
