Innovate Finance launches its inaugural Pride in FinTech Powerlist

Innovate Finance has announced its inaugural Pride in FinTech Powerlist 2023, the first of its kind in the FinTech sector, recognising the contributions made by members of the LGBTQIA+ community to make financial services more inclusive, transparent and democratic for all.

The Powerlist highlights the significant role of the LGBTQIA+ community in promoting diversity and inclusion in FinTech. The list includes contributions from leading FinTechs including Airwallex, ClearBank, Funding Circle, Monzo, Starling Bank, Thought Machine, TrueLayer, Wise, WealthKernel, Zopa, and many others.

FinTech is one of the UK’s most innovative sectors, representing 10% of the world’s total market share. With this sector standing at the cutting edge of British technology, it should also stand at the forefront of driving greater diversity and inclusion within the industry as well.

The initiative, supported by Google, will culminate in a celebratory event in December.

Janine Hirt, CEO of Innovate Finance, said: “As part of our ongoing diversity programme, we are delighted to announce our very first Innovate Finance Pride in FinTech Powerlist, which celebrates the incredible work, achievements, and impact of members of the LGBTQIA+ community in driving positive change across financial services. Our hope is that this Powerlist will inspire current and future generations.”

Lou Smith, Chair of Innovate Finance, said: “We are excited to launch the first ever Pride in FinTech Powerlist in celebration and recognition of the LGBTQIA+ community within the FinTech sector. We know there is more action needed to boost levels of diversity and inclusion in the industry, and this initiative will help spotlight the diverse voices already part of the FinTech story in the UK. At Innovate Finance, we recognise the importance of our members and the people we serve; this is why we have taken this important step in recognition of those who have helped us build the sector into what it is today.”
