Former Meta Policy Lead Katie Wilson Joins Fintech Australia as Head of Policy
FinTech Australia has appointed former Meta global Policy Manager, Katie Wilson as its new Head of Policy.
With a background in law and policy, Ms. Wilson brings over a decade of experience to the role. She previously held legal and policy-related positions at ANZ Bank, the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet and law firm Herbert Smith Freehills.
Key to FinTech Australia’s policy work, the group’s Head of Policy facilitates industry relations with government, spearheads submissions and works with members to shape the peak body’s position on various regulatory issues.
“Policy is instrumental to the work we do at FinTech Australia for our members. Katie’s appointment sees FinTech Australia double-down on the pivotal role of our organisation within the fintech community,” FinTech Australia CEO Rehan D’Almedia said.
“I look forward to working with Katie, shaping and reinforcing our positions in key areas such as the Consumer Data Right, payments and regulation of cryptocurrency.”
FinTech Australia’s incoming Head of Policy Katie Wilson said: “I’m excited to join the FinTech Australia team, driving the peak body’s policy goals of working with the government and key decision-makers to improve competition, innovation and financial literacy in Australia. I look forward to meeting with our incredible members as soon as possible.”
“Given my background in both policy and financial services, I’ve been well across FinTech Australia’s work since its inception in 2016. Its policy efforts to date have thread the needle of managing the policy needs of a broad base of members, as well as distilling and articulating the industry’s concerns in a way that’s easy for regulators to understand and act on.”
“My goal in the role is to maintain and build on that momentum, as many fundamental policy issues within the fintech industry begin to translate into applications and tools that will benefit everyday Australians.”
The appointment comes a month ahead of FinTech Australia’s annual flagship conference, Intersekt, held at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne on September 18 and 19. Last year’s event drew over 1000 delegates from across the fintech industry, government, and corporate Australia.
