Fintech North Arrives In Newcastle To Showcase The Region’s Talent
FinTech North returns to Newcastle this summer, with the event bringing together the best talent that the North-East FinTech ecosystem has to offer. Hosted at The Common Room of the Great North in Newcastle, the conference will take place on the 20th July.
The day will give a platform to pioneering start-ups and established tech companies from the North-East and beyond. Durham’s very own unicorn Atom Bank, one of the UK’s most successful FinTechs, is the headline sponsor. They will host a fireside chat with Chief Technology Officer Andy Sturrock, before Chief People Officer, Anne-Marie Lister, offers her thoughts on ‘FinTech culture and scaling’ later in the day.
Marking a hattrick of appearances on the Tyneside since 2019, FinTech North Newcastle is expected to see 200+ delegates attend on the day, both in-person and virtually.
A recent report from Whitecap Consulting highlights that the FinTech sector will contribute over £430m to the North East’s economy by 2025, as well as creating 2,000 new jobs. To help pursue and accelerate that trajectory, a new regional initiative – ‘FinPact’ – will be launched at FinTech North Newcastle, with a presentation and panel session dedicated to exploring strategies for growth.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear directly from some of the many FinTechs propelling the regional FinTech sector, with local firm Kani Payments – who will deliver a fireside chat on Smart Data and the Future of Payments – one of many set to appear throughout the day. Kani, along with Invest Newcastle and Mastercard, are brand sponsors of the event.
Providing a comprehensive overview of the regulatory landscape, the Financial Conduct Authority will be presenting, sharing insights from their renowned Innovation Hub. Innovate Finance will also be giving an update on the current state of the UK FinTech sector, and Mastercard will be speaking on how FinTech and the public sector can work better together.
The FinTech showcase session will conclude the day’s proceedings. The rapid-fire pitching exercise will promote FinTech organisations, many of them start-ups, from the North-East region and further afield. Newcastle names include digital receipts platform Polybox Solutions, community sport data and finance platform SportFin, and the North East Regional Special Operations Unit (NERSOU), who will talk about FinTech crime.
Other speakers include Ezechi Britton MBE, CEO of CFIT, Rebekah O’Connor, Department for Business and Trade and Dawn Dunn, Senior Inward Investment Manager at Invest Newcastle.
Julian Wells, Director at FinTech North and Whitecap Consulting, comments: “We’re delighted to be back in Newcastle this year. Having recently had an incredibly successful conference down in Leeds, I’m excited to venture further north to carry on displaying the talent and ability that the Northern regions have in reams.
“As ever, there’ll be a real breadth of speakers, with some huge multi-national names, such as Mastercard, right through to fresh FinTech startups, all coming together to discuss how we can successfully collaborate to further both the North-East region and the wider FinTech sector.”
The Newcastle agenda and registration page can be accessed here. Early bird tickets are still available. Students can take advantage of complimentary entry to the event.
