FIME First to Perform Mastercard Contactless Reader Level 2 Testing in Japan

Delivers local support to accelerate approval of Mastercard Contactless Readers

FIME today announces its Japanese laboratory is the first in the country to be approved to perform testing in line with the Mastercard Contactless Reader specification and EMVCo Book C-2 specification. These documents define the functionality required when implementing Mastercard contactless terminal kernels. Japanese contactless payment terminal and mobile point of sale (mPOS) manufacturers, as well as kernel developers, can now work with FIME in local language and currency to achieve cost and time effective Mastercard testing of their solutions prior to market launch.

EMV migration in Japan is gaining momentum, driven by increased tourism, major sporting events and the introduction of regulatory initiatives to reduce reliance on cash,” comments Vincent Poty, Vice President, Test & Certification at FIME. “With all of this driving adoption of contactless and mobile payments, it was important for us to bring on-the-ground support to Japanese terminal vendors. We have a long history with Mastercard globally, and have delivered a range of services in Japan since 2013. Our position as the only laboratory in Japan reaffirms this partnership and our strong and continued commitment to customers.

The Japanese laboratory will use FIME’s qualified test tool, EVAL, to perform formal Mastercard approval testing. The tool is available to purchase for in-house pre- testing to help identify issues that can lead to delays later in the official approval process.
