De La Rue Signs up to the United Nations Global Compact Sustainability Programme
De La Rue is proud to announce its participation in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), thereby reinforcing and formalising its existing commitment to sustainability.
De La Rue is a UK-based company with a distinguished 200-year heritage of supplying secure solutions to governments around the world. The company operates to the highest ethical standards in over two-thirds of the world’s countries.
The UNGC is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. It encourages companies to align their strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, environment and anti-corruption, and take actions that advance the 17 Sustainable Development Goals identified by the United Nations. These goals aim to encourage individuals, organisations, governments and the international community to communicate and collaborate more effectively than ever before to ensure that everyone has the right to prosper in the future.
De La Rue has recognised that the private sector has a vital role to play in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the UNGC provides a framework to enable continued engagement across our business. Commenting on the signing, Martin Sutherland, De La Rue’s Chief Executive said “Our business fights against counterfeit every day and we aim to enable legal identity and social inclusion for our customers across the world. As a result, many of the Sustainable Development Goals are at the heart of what our business does. We are proud to demonstrate that we are a responsible business – in the services we provide, the way we work and the contributions we make to the communities we operate in’.
