BTG Advisory partner appointed Turnaround Management Association UK president

The Turnaround Management Association UK (TMA UK) has announced the appointment of BTG Advisory partner Paul Davies as president of the association from January 2021.
In his role as president Paul Davies, an award-winning restructuring expert with more than two decades of experience, will guide TMA UK through its 20th anniversary and hold the post for a two-year term following the conclusion of outgoing president Peter Stevens’ term.
An internationally renowned specialist in risk banking, formal work, distressed investing and turnaround the new president of TMA UK has built a reputation at BTG Advisory, an international financial, restructuring and management consultancy, for providing a unique perspective to stakeholders of the businesses he has worked with.
Paul Davies, incoming President of TMA UK, said: “In this current business climate the skillsets and support of associations like TMA UK have never been more important to helping create better, stronger UK businesses.
“With insolvencies on the rise, almost half a million companies in financial distress –according to the Begbies Traynor Red Flag Alert – and pandemics causing financial markets to suffer, professional networks filled with talented restructuring operators are vital.
“My previous experience on the board of TMA UK means that I am ready to continue the legacy of previous presidents, and with the valuable support of Peter Stevens I will have help to do that.  During Peter’s presidency, his passion and charisma has helped to drive the association forward. Moving into the 20th anniversary of TMA UK, I am looking forward to spearheading continued growth of the association and driving a range of new and insightful events with the help of the board.
“For the past few years we have had seven new directors and seen member numbers, events and attendances increase. This success can only be a good thing for business as every year our members help businesses become stronger and more resilient. By having a powerful network that shares best practice and skills we can ensure that those businesses we help survive and thrive if difficult times come to their doorstep.”
In recent years Paul Davies has moved to BTG Advisory as partner after working across a number of sectors. Recent cases include advising on the £8m refinance of a distressed food wholesaler, the accelerated sale of a food manufacturer and a £25m refinancing of a plant hire company.
Paul Stevens, outgoing president of TMA UK, said: “This is my second year as President of the UK chapter and in line with previous Presidents I will be stepping down from the role at the end of the year. I am pleased to announce that the Board has confirmed our support for Paul Davies to take over as President for 2021.
“Paul successfully chaired the Annual Conference Committee last year and is doing the same this year. I will of course continue to support him as Past President in the same way as Andrew Pepper has provided valuable support and guidance to me.
“It will be an exciting year for Paul as it will coincide with the 20th anniversary of TMA in the UK and we will be announcing plans as to how we intend to mark this milestone, watch this space!”
