Apple Pay Available for Nationwide’s Customers in the UK from Today

Nationwide Building Society’s customers are now able to use their credit and debit cards with Apple Pay to make purchases within apps and pay at contactless points across the country, offering customers an easy, secure and private way to pay.

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When you add a credit or debit card to Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

Tony Prestedge, Nationwide’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are excited that Nationwide customers will be amongst the first to be able to use Apple Pay from today, offering even greater choice in the way millions of our members purchase goods and services. The Society is committed to delivering innovative services to help members manage their money whenever, wherever and however they choose, and offering Apple Pay is a clear demonstration that Nationwide is a truly Modern Mutual.”

Apple Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by credit and debit cards. In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch. When paying for goods and services within apps, Apple Pay is compatible with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.

Supporting Apple Pay is the latest in a number of innovative customer focused developments from the Society, including the roll out of wearable technology, upgrades to its Mobile Banking App and the expansion of Nationwide Now as part of a £500 million investment in its branch network.
