Announcing Xpring.io for developers
We launched Xpring over a year ago to support Ripple’s vision of enabling the Internet of Value by supporting the community of developers building with XRP.
Through our work with partners, students and developers it became clear that while there is a lot of enthusiasm and interest in the space, there is still a high barrier to entry when it comes to building with blockchain and digital assets.
To support the growth and development of the XRP ecosystem, we announced the next chapter for Xpring, an open developer platform that is designed to remove the pain of integrating money into apps for the 23 million developers worldwide.
Today, we’re bringing the platform to life by launching Xpring.io, a site for developers that includes a wallet, new tools and services. As part of our commitment to building Xpring on open source software, open standards, and open networks, we have contributed several new updates to the Xpring SDK, XRP Ledger, and Interledger.
Xpring.io is a developer site that will serve as a hub for developers to access tools, services and documentation that help enable payments in their products and apps.
The first piece of major functionality we are launching on Xpring.io is a wallet that makes it easy to manage all the tools that are critical for developers – like those used to generate and manage account credentials, view balances, and monitor transaction history. Wallets are a critical piece of infrastructure for building on blockchain and we are excited to bring a wallet built specifically for developers.
Today, the wallet supports the XRP Testnet which is ideal for developers who want to get up and running quickly. The wallet is an important stake in the ground for Xpring and the foundation of the functionalities and features that will launch in 2020.
The Xpring SDK is the primary tool developers can use to get started quickly when it comes to integrating money into apps. Our goal with the Xpring SDK is to make it easy for developers to add money to their applications regardless of what platforms they’re on or what languages they prefer. Appropriately, the Xpring wallet is built using the Xpring SDK for its functionality.
The Xpring SDK now supports reliable transaction submissions on XRP Devnet and Testnet, which makes it easier for wallet and exchange developers to submit and verify transactions on XRP Ledger. XRP is the first major digital asset ledger to offer fast finality and confirmation – something not available on Bitcoin or Ethereum. This puts blockchain and crypto at parity with what consumers are used to experiencing with traditional finance.
Python and Go are two of the most popular programming languages.
The latest XRP Ledger stable version 1.4.0 was made available to developers on XRP Testnet and Mainnet, with support for Deletable Accounts – a new Amendment that allows users to delete XRP Ledger accounts and recover up to 15 XRP of their base reserve. Deletable Accounts is an important new feature that helps the XRP Ledger sustainably scale to millions more accounts.
A high performance, open-source universal RPC framework.
A prototype of native support for gRPC on XRP Ledger is currently under review, and if passed, could be included in the XRP Ledger beta version of 1.5.0 on XRP Devnet. gRPC is a modern open source high performance RPC framework that can run in any environment. Support for gRPC helps developers of any language access the XRP Ledger core protocol at its lowest level without having to trust hosted libraries.
Daemon for easy but powerful stats aggregation.
The XRP Ledger now has improved support for StatsD, a drop-in monitoring solution that server operators can run alongside rippled to monitor the health of their servers.
As part of our growing engagement with developers, today Xpring is launching a native blog that will host content related to new product releases, community events and developer profiles, emerging use cases and partnership announcements.
Web Monetization is being proposed as a W3C standard.
The Xpring blog also supports Web Monetization, a new open standard that uses Interledger to allow websites to request a stream of very small payments from the user. Web Monetization is an alternative revenue model for the web that is built to be open for everyone and Xpring uses Coil to implement Web Monetization on its blog.
Xpring is committed to shipping new updates every quarter to our developer platform and the open source projects we contribute to. We look forward to working with all developers to solve existing pain points in payments and to fuel new business models and use cases that we have yet to discover.
