Steve Naudé Discusses Changes In Cross-Border Payments
Here Steve Naudé, Head Of Wise Platform, talks to FF News about the changes and challenges in cross-border payments and customer demands. Wise is a foreign exchange company which aims to make money transfers cheap, fair and simple.
“Customer expectations have really shifted in recent years. Not just in payments, but in many things, if you order food to your home you want it to be there in five or ten minutes … When you then send money internationally and it takes three or four days, there’s a disconnection from this ‘Now! Now! Now!’ world that we live in. So speed is a huge part of customer expectations these days.”
“With Wise, over 50% of our payments are instant, which is less than 20 seconds from one account to settling with the recipient, and that’s where customer expectations are on speed.”
“All these challenges [in cross-border payments], technical, regulatory and operational, understanding how all the money works, how all the local schemes work are pretty significant. For us, this is all we do, it’s the main part of our business.”
