Maria Netley & Jim Kaye – FIX Trading Community – FIX Nordic Trading Conference 2023

Over in Stockholm for the FIX Nordic Trading Conference 2023, we caught up with some of the organisers of the event. In this video, we hear insights from Maria Netley, EMEA Regional Director at the FIX Trading Community and Jim Kaye, Executive Director of the FIX Trading Community. The FIX Trading Community is a non-profit standards body that operates within the financial trading sector.

Maria: “FIX Trading Community started nearly 30 years ago as a collaboration between a number of city firms, buy-side and sell-side firms, who were starting to move their business to be more electronic and recognized that everybody doing that independently did absolutely no good for the markets. As we were doing this, the markets were moving into a much more secure way of trading. Through this collaboration between the number of firms at the beginning, the community has just grown and grown.”

Jim: “In the early days, electronic trading was kind of being built out from almost nothing. As Maria said, the industry kind of came together to basically save time and money and come up with a much more reliable and robust way of doing what we’re trying to do. … What we’re finding now is that we’re moving into a kind of more complex problem space and some of the things we’re talking about in this conference are spaces which aren’t really particularly about the micro detail of electronic trading, but much much larger themes.”
